Greetings,

My Ancestral name is Xem-Tu-Mus. My family is from Kwikwetlem First Nation, today known as Coquitlam.

I began my journey of learning about our Culture in 1993 shortly after having the honour of connecting with Auntie’s and Uncle’s. I can remember asking “how do I get a Traditional Name“? and then during the winter of that year, I was introduced to our Winter Homes (Longhouse) and began the journey of learning our Cultural Protocols as well as the importance of the connection with family and the land. During that same winter season, I was stood up with many other family members and received my name. It was explained to me that our names do not have a meaning, but my name will identify who my family is and where my family comes from. This is important for those of us who travel to other communities and visit other Longhouses.

Living my life immersed with cultural values is especially important to me regarding my connection to my family and to the land. This helps me to remember where we came from. And to remember that everyday we wake up is a new day and a new opportunity to learn something new.

Red Sockeye Consulting Inc. was developed with the intention of being able to work with Organizations, Municipalities and other levels of Governments to share the teachings of our Cultural Protocols and to provide a Cultural Lens to ongoing projects.

Some projects, my Nation will request that I attend to, at the request of Government Agency or Organization. Other projects I would be invited to and would then invite to connect my Nation with this party.

All the work I complete, I do with the intention of a good heart and a good mind and in the spirit of reconciliation. Protecting our Cultural Values is always of highest importance and working to develop positive relationships is just as important to me.

I provide consultation services to other Indigenous Nations in regards to Governance.

I assist with developing Custom Election Rules (and to amend these rules). Further, I provide services as an Electoral Officer to help the Nation to hold Elections for Chief and Council.

I do not go into great detail here as the needs for each Nation are vastly different from each other, and requires an exploratory meeting to help identify the next steps.
